Save Ourselves Sister Program (S.O.S)

In a few short weeks we will reveal to Los Angeles a program that has never been seen in the history of Los Angeles called Save Ourselves Sister Program (S.O.S). NCNW View Park along with 12 collaborative partners have collided together to form a dynamic 360 Degree Holistic approach to changing the fate of our African American Girls and Young Women in the city of Los Angeles. Save Ourselves Sisters will touch the lives of girls age 8-18 in the areas of: Health & Wellness, Life Skills Etiquette, Personal Development, Financial Literacy, Social Media Etiquette, HIV & AIDS, Cyber Bullying , Awareness, Sex Trafficking Prevention, Positive Imagery, Domestic Violence Prevention, Hair Care, Foster Youth Advocacy, Mentorship, Job Preparedness & Parenting Classes for both girls & participants parents.

We strongly believe that since our girls grow up and raise our boys and girls we need to get to the Root of the tree and not just the fruit it bears. I can give you a long violin list of reasons why NCNW View Park, needs to specifically focus on Girls and Women of African Decent in Los Angeles, but time is of the essence.

  • The next time you see, Bright Blue Weaved Hair, say to yourself "S.O.S. has got some work to do".
  • The next time you see, Panty Shorts worn on the street, say to yourself " S.O.S. has got some work to do".
  • The next time you see a Tattooed covered arm, leg or neck, say to yourself " S.O.S. has got some work to do".
  • The next time you see a young girl selling her body, say to yourself " S.O.S. has got some work to do".
  • The next time you hear a young mother cursing her 2 year old baby out because he/she can't keep up, say to yourself " S.O.S. has SURELY got some work to do".

YES, NCNW View Park and S.O.S. has got some work to do and we can't do it without you! Please support this Community Breakfast in an effort to catapult S.O.S. and the girls we serve. #saveourselvessisters

NCNW Supports Loretta Lynch as U.S. Attorney General

NCNW,  it is time to raise our voices again, in support of Loretta Lynch.

On November 8, 2014, President Barack Obama nominated U.S. Attorney Loretta E. Lynch to replace Eric Holder as the next Attorney General of the United States.  If confirmed, Ms. Lynch will become the first female African American U.S. Attorney General.  Her confirmation delay is unprecedented and unwarranted. The reality is that Ms. Lynch is well-qualified for the position and she should be the next Attorney General of the United States of America.

 DTEC IS LOOKING FOR YOU!
About The Teacher Efficacy Academy

The Teacher Efficacy Academy (TEA) is a nine-module online course that offers 180 teachers located in four geographic areas the opportunity to reflect, purposely, on their own self-efficacy. Upon successful completion of the course, the anticipated result is a better understanding of the correlation between teacher efficacy and student achievement.

Selected participants are required to attend one in-person session scheduled between April and May 2015 and will receive a stipend to defray travel costs.  Participants, supported by a facilitator within their selected regions, are also required to complete weekly Academy modules that include a discussion question and journal entry.

Teacher participants earn Teacher Efficacy Academy certification upon completion. Depending upon approval from a teacher's school district, the training may be used as professional development credits. In addition, Academy teachers receive a nominal First Book grant to help expand their classroom libraries.

Najah Janeen Roberts
President of NCNW ViewPark Section
The National Council of Negro Women – View Park (NCNW-View Park) announced October 1 the general membership election of Najah Janeen Roberts as its new President. Ms. Roberts brings more than 20 years of relevant leadership experience to her new role.

She replaces Carolynn Martin, who is serving as Executive Director of NCNW-View Park’s Wellness Stations located in the Housing Projects of Pueblo Del Rio,with a mobile unit in Nickerson Garden, Jordan Downs, and Imperial Courts.

“I am honored to be selected to carry the baton for this outstanding organization,” said Ms. Roberts. “I look forward to working with the dedicated volunteers, employees, board members, community partners and public officials to strengthen our communities and help girls and women in need.”

Ms. Roberts will provide leadership to the NCNW-View Park Membership as it continues efforts to provide programs to lead, develop, and advocate for Girls and Women of African Descent, as they support their families and communities.

A signature program of NCNW-View Park is the Phoenix Leadership Academy for Girls in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles Summer Night Lights Program. It is an 8-week summer leadership academy for girls who reside in the Housing Projects of Nickerson Gardens, Jordan Downs Housing and Imperial Courts. Academy classes focus on social etiquette, education, African-American History, being a girl, table setting, health and wellness, yoga, art, language, conflict resolution, dance, fashion and arts and crafts.

Ms. Roberts is a native of Los Angeles, CA and no stranger to the social ills that plague girls and women of African descent on a daily basis. Her impressive passion for the community began when she Founded Family Knots Express a transportation service that transported children to visit their incarcerated parents. As an Executive Board member of the National Association of Brothers and Sisters Inside and Out (N.A.B.S.I.O.), she advocates for Women in Prison.
